So, today I took an online quiz about my learning style. Usually I score Kinesthetic, which makes sense since I like to move around. I am not coordinated really, but I am hyper. I always score "visual," too, even though I am dyslexic, but one of the quizzes didn't quite offer that as an option. One thing I am not is really "auditory" since that is my weakest sense--slight hearing loss and auditory processing problems. Well, so my strengths are spatial, visual, kinesthetic/tactile, and some nature/outdoors. Not such a great combination for sitting in a classroom! How does knowing this effect my learning? Since I learned this about myself years ago, I tried to always sit at the front of the room, but at the end of the aisle, so I could see well, hear best, and get up and leave if I needed to. When I sit in the back of the room, I don't pay attention so well. Classes that have small, short-term r individual projects and activities are the most exciting to me. Classes that are all lecture, zzzzzzzzz, sorry, am I supposed to be awake? I don't like classes that have too much noises commotion--I get on auditory overload and it makes me tired and cranky. I like it when everyone talks, but takes turns. The classes I did best in were art, anatomy and physiology, and woodshop--since I am creative and I had short-term projects with clear models of what I was to do or produce, and my worst were the lecture-only classes. I have taken classes taught in English, Spanish, French, and American Sign Language. Knowing my learning style helped me know what to do in each language.
